During the upstairs remodel, this Washougal, WA home lost a lot of attic insulation. The owners needed a solution to make their upstairs more comfortable.
When our energy consultant met with the owners, they felt their home was a 5 out of 10 on energy efficiency since the remodel was completed. To discover what was causing this, he suited up and crawled in to the attic, investigating every aspect.
He found many areas that were sparse or missing in insulation, can lights without covers (these are amazingly leaky), and the scuttle cover from the house to the attic was very leaky. We quite often find a variety of reasons that a home is leaking air into the attic!
When investigating, our energy consultant also found clear evidence of rodents living in the attic. TruSoft™ blown-in cellulose has borate added; animals do not like to live in it, so it will deter critters from moving in.
Our insulation crew removed the existing insulation, sealed the air leak areas, covered the can lights with covers, and air sealed and insulated the scuttle cover. They then blew in TruSoft™ cellulose insulation.
With all the improvements in sealing the areas that were leaking conditioned air from their home up into the attic, plus the deep “blanket” of cellulose insulation, this family is now much more comfortable!
