Completion date: July 10, 2018

Location: Vancouver, WA

Solutions provided:

The floors in this Vancouver, WA home were cold, and the homeowner wanted to solve this issue, plus make her home more energy efficient. There seemed to be issues between the original house and the addition but she needed an evaluation to help determine what was going on.

Solution

The homeowner met us at a home show and set up an appointment for our Energy Consultant to evaluate the home. After meeting with her, our Energy Consultant suited up and crawled under the home.

Rim joists in a typical home are a huge source of energy loss, and this home was no exception. Uninsulated rim joists make floors colder in the winter. (See the first 3 minutes of the video for an explanation. www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1UuyM0SRWM)

She chose to have our company insulate using closed-cell spray foam to insulate the rim joists. It stopped those air leaks as it expands to fill all cracks and crevices. Spray foam also gives the area a great coat of insulation. With the air leaks sealed and the rim joists insulated so no heat or cold can flow through them, the floors in the home will be more comfortable now!
