What to Expect During an Attic Installation

Our team goes through a complete process for our attic installation services to ensure customers fully understand and receive the best solutions.

Ever wonder what the attic installation process might look like? At Josh Lowe’s Dr. Energy Saver, we provide attic insulation installation services tailored to your home’s specific needs. Our Project Design Specialist, Monte Riddle, details the complete process that our team follows and what customers can expect during an installation service.

Review Contract and Explain Processes

First, expect a meet and greet with the foreman, going over the contract in detail and explaining every step of what they plan to do. This helps clear up any confusion and allows customers to ask any questions before they get started.

Protect Environment

Then, our workers will carefully and meticulously protect the environment in which they will be working. These steps are important in ensuring your home’s environment remains safe and free of harmful substances:

  • Our team changes into protective gear such as respirator masks, gloves, eye and head protection, and long-sleeved clothing
  • Using vacuums, dust collection systems, and proper disposal systems, our team works to control the amount of dust and airborne pollutants and minimize the amount of contamination
  • Tarping off the entire area of the attic access in the hallway or master bedroom makes it safer for us to do our work and protects you and your home from the hazardous materials

Fiberglass Insulation Removal Process

When we remove fiberglass insulation from an attic, we make sure to remove and dispose of it carefully. We take great care not to contaminate your home in any way, as proper handling prevents respiratory irritation.

This process requires specialized training and expertise to ensure customer safety and satisfaction.

Air Sealing

Next, we will spray foam to seal all the holes, cracks, gaps, and penetrations on the ceiling deck, preventing conditioned air from escaping into the attic. This is a common issue with projects that don’t incorporate air sealing, as these little gaps and cracks are responsible for significant air loss and inconsistent temperatures.

Air sealing also helps make your home more energy efficient with a low carbon footprint. By eliminating all the areas in which air can seep in or escape out of the attic, the workload on your heating and cooling systems is reduced, leading to significantly less energy loss.

Cellulose Insulation Installation Process

Lastly, we will install up to R-60 cellulose insulation. R-value measures the resistance to heat flow. The higher the R-value, the more effective it is in preventing heat from transferring through the insulated area. We also install a protective barrier on top of the ceiling deck to protect your home from the hostile environment of your attic, which can reach temperatures of 160°F.

Cellulose maintains consistent indoor temperatures by preventing heat transfer, maintaining the temperature in your attic to stay consistent. During the winter, cellulose prevents indoor heat from escaping through the ceiling into the attic. During the summer, it prevents external heat from entering your home.
