Vancouver, WA Crawl Space Gets Encapsulated, Solves Two Problems Vancouver, WA Crawl Space Gets Encapsulated, Solves Two Problems

These Vancouver, WA homeowners wanted to improve the air quality in their home and also decrease their heating and cooling costs. When our Energy Consultant crawled around under their home, he found a crumpled up vapor barrier, evidence of animal infestations, fiberglass batting hanging down, and gaps around the sill plate on the foundation wall.

This couple moved forward with a crawl space encapsulation.  It helps dramatically improve air quality since almost 50% of the air you are breathing in a one-story home moves in to your home from the crawl space. By having the crawl space sealed and insulated so well, it will also help decrease utility costs. Two problems solved with one solution!

To help make this Vancouver, WA home more comfortable and energy efficient, sealing and insulating was needed in the attic. It was at an R-30 level, yet code for our area is now R-49, and R-60 is highly suggested.

To make this higher insulation level perform at its best, first the old insulation was removed. This allowed our crew access to seal where there were air leaks. Six lights were covered with can light covers; light fixtures leak a lot of conditioned air from inside the house into the attic.

The crew then blew in to the higher R-60 level TruSoft™ cellulose insulation. It is make of newsprint and treated with borate so critters do not like to use it as nesting material. The final step was to air seal and insulate the scuttle cover to the attic. All of these steps together have made for a much more comfortable home to live in!

Reliable Attic Insulation Solutions For Vancouver Homeowners

High utility bills and rooms that are too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter are just a few signs that your attic may not be properly insulated. Upgrading your attic insulation is one of the most simple, cost-effective ways to improve comfort. We all know that hot air rises so without proper attic insulation you could literally be throwing your money away when you try to heat your home in the winter. However, attic insulation provides year-round benefits. Attic insulation can help just as much in the warmer months by creating a barrier between the top of your home and the harsh summer sun. You lose the most energy through the top of your home so attic proper attic insulation is guaranteed to save you money and increase home comfort.

Affordable & Efficient Crawl Space Insulation

Crawl spaces tend to soak up the natural cold or heat around your home and transfers it into the air in your crawl space. This will cause your energy bills to rise and your home’s comfort to decrease. If you have utilities in your crawl space such as your water heater, furnace, or hot water pipes, your energy bills will suffer even more. The fluctuation in temperature will force your heating and air conditioning systems to work harder, causing your energy costs to rise. For your crawl space insulation to perform like it should, it's essential to install the right type of crawl space insulation, the right amount of crawl space insulation, and use the correct installation technique. At Josh Lowe's Dr. Energy Saver we can improve the condition of your crawl space with products that are durable, long-lasting, and made especially for the crawl space environment!

Spray Foam Insulation Experts

Spray foam insulation is the best choice for insulation if you’re looking to increase your comfort & decrease your energy bills. Spray foam insulation is truly the best option for home insulation and here are a few reasons why. Spray Foam Insulation provides an air barrier due to its ability to fill gaps and cracks. It is also great at staying in the hard to reach areas because of its super-adhesive qualities. Spray foam insulation is also waterproof, unlike fiberglass and cellulose insulation. Water will not be able to pass through the foam which makes it an extremely durable and long-lasting product. Lastly, spray foam insulation is foolproof. Spray foam is sprayed as a liquid and then expands and hardens to fill voids and gaps. There is never any chance for an area to be missed or void to form. Once cured spray foam insulation will stay in place for decades to come and will never shift or settle like fiberglass. To ensure your home has the best insulation available and your energy bills are low, switch to spray foam insulation today!

Benefits of Spray Foam Insulation Include:

  • spray foam works in all areas of the home
  • has a greater R-value
  • acts as an air sealant
  • is waterproof
  • leaves no gaps

Vancouver, WA Home Now More Comfortable to Live In with Attic Insulation

See this BEFORE photo? This is all their attic had in it! With hardly any insulation, and no air sealing, this Vancouver, WA home was hotter in the summer and colder in the winter.

Vancouver, WA Homeowners Able to Solve Two Crawl Space Issues With One Company

When this Vancouver, WA couple met us at a home show, they were looking for a company to help them with their crawl space.  It was a mess and not keeping them comfortable inside their home.

Our Energy Consultant met with the homeowners to talk with them about what they wanted to accomplish, which included controlling water in the crawl space and making the house warmer in the winter.

The Energy Consultant suited up and climbed under their home.  He found a lot of water!  Fortunately, it hadn’t started growing mold, yet.

To solve the water issue and make the floors warmer in the winter, our 4-person insulation crew installed a SmartSump sump pump system plus drainage pipe to get that water out of the crawl space. They were able to tie it in to the existing gutter drain system. The existing drain pipe in the crawl space had to be capped so that water did not flow back into the crawl space.

The crew then removed all the old, inefficient fiberglass batting under the home.  To help seal air leaks and make the floors inside the home warmer, the crew sprayed three inches thick of closed cell spray foam in the crawl space on the underfloor.

With one crew and one company, these homeowners were able to solve two issues!
