Attic in Older Home Insulated with More Effective Blown-in Cellulose

This couple had only been in their 61-year-old home for three days and already knew they had comfort issues. And it wasn’t even the heat of the summer, yet!

Solution

Our Energy Consultant crawled in both the attic and the crawl space and found insulation issues in each space (see photo). Since the attic is the most effective place to start, they chose to start with the attic.

First off, our insulation team removed all the old insulation. This removes the critter nesting material, and also exposes the areas that are leaking from the house into the attic and need to be sealed. The crew sealed the leaks, insulated the cover to the attic, and then blew in TruSoft™ blown-in cellulose to the R-38 level.

Because of the way building science works, air sealing and insulating the attic made a big difference in the comfort of their home.
