Beaverton Home Built in 1970's Needing More Attic Insulation To Be Efficient

The owner knew the insulation levels were not up to current code. After doing some research and finding our company on Home Advisor, he called for an appointment regarding the attic for this Beaverton, OR home.

When our Energy Consultant met with the owner, the bigger issue was to keep their home cooler in the summer. When he crawled in to the attic to investigate, there was not very much insulation (see first two photos) and it was older-inefficient insulation. The summer sun beating down on the roof heated up the attic, and then the low levels of insulation didn’t do much to prevent heating up the living areas.

The best solution was to remove all the older insulation. There are two reasons for this. 1) It allows the insulation crew to be able to find where air is leaking in to the attic from the home, and seal up these leaky areas (see last photo). 2) In removing the old insulation, rather than blowing in new insulation on top of it, it does not give critters a place to live. TruSoft™ cellulose insulation used in this attic is treated with borate so animals do not like to live in it.

This summer, they will be much more comfortable in their home!
