Homeowner Uncomfortable Since House Missing Insulation!
Completion date: January 29, 2018
Location: Reedsport, OR
After having the local utility do an investigation of her home, this Reedsport, OR homeowner found us in the phone book and called us for an appointment. This home was fairly new to her, and she was not comfortable living in it.
Our Energy Consultant met with her to find out what she has experienced living in the home, and to hear about what the utility discovered. He then investigated the home from top to bottom. “How could there be no insulation in here?” were his first thoughts. No wonder she was not comfortable in her home. Both photos show what our Energy Consultant found in the attic and the crawl space.
In the attic, our insulation crew installed roof vents to code (there were not enough), air sealed all the leaky places, and then blew in TruSoft™ cellulose insulation to the R-38 insulation level.
Under the home, first our crew removed trash and debris and installed a 6-mil black plastic vapor barrier to help prevent water from condensing under this home near the ocean. The foundation vents were not screened so the crew installed 1/4-inch screen to help prevent critters from moving in under the home. They then insulated under the floor with R-25 batting.
As you can imagine, the homeowner is much more comfortable in her home now.
