Moldy and Damp Storage Area Cleaned Up
Completion date: December 27, 2016
Location: Ridgefield, OR
High humidity, wet insulation, and mold lived in the storage area above the crawl space. The house was built in 2007, so the homeowners thought everything should be fine. However, getting ready to hit the slopes with their skis they noticed a foul odor coming from their snow clothes that had been stored in this space. They had known the area needed to be fixed but had been putting it off for a couple of years thinking they would eventually get around to fixing it. They knew mold and mildew could be a health hazard if left untreated and decided it was time to call an insulation repair expert.
Three different contractor companies came out to bid the job but the owners chose Josh Lowe’s Dr. Energy Saver. “Even though the other bids came in cheaper, those other companies needed to subcontract the work for the spray foam. I remembered Josh from the home show and trusted him to do the job seamlessly.”
The crew sealed all the vents to prevent air leakage and used spray foam in the storage space to lower humidity. The spray foam that was used is graphite infused which increases the R-value (ability of insulation to slow the heat flow). The higher the R-value the better the insulation.
The homeowners are happy to be keeping their belongings in a clean storage area without fear of wearing smelly clothing.
